LeBron leads Cavs into Oakland
Basketball Betting Lines
01/11/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cleveland Cavaliers resume a five-game road trip in
Oakland Monday against a Golden State Warriors team in the midst of their
longest homestand of the year.
The Cavs dropped the opener of their trek in Denver but bounced back nicely
with a 106-94 win in Portland last night. LeBron James came just shy of a
triple-double and scored 31 points in the first half in that one, as Cleveland
used a late run to beat the Blazers, 106-94.
James finished with 41 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Cavs, who
surged thanks to an 11-0 spurt in the final quarter and have now won nine of
11 overall. Mo Williams added 16 points, Anderson Varejao 12 and Shaquille
O'Neal added 11 points with 11 rebounds.
"In order to get road wins you have to come out aggressive and that was just
my whole mindset to come into the game," James said. "We continue to execute
offensively, guys continue to rotate, we made shots and then on the defensive
end we got stops. That's what it's about. You have to get stops to win close
games, especially on the road and especially in the fourth quarter."
Cleveland, which is 15-7 as the visitor, will finish its trip with visits to
Utah and the LA Clippers.
The Warriors, meanwhile, opened a seven-game homestand in winning fashion
Friday when Monta Ellis poured in 39 points and dished out six assists, as
Golden State rallied to beat the Sacramento Kings, 108-101.
Corey Maggette added 24 points and eight rebounds for the Warriors, who
won their second straight and improved to 7-7 on their home floor. Stephen
Curry chipped in 12 points for Golden State, which outscored Sacramento,
32-15, in the fourth quarter.
"It was a fun game to win," Warriors head coach Don Nelson said. "Some games
you just don't know how you do it but somehow we came back. Like I said we
need support from our fans and boy did they give it to us when it wasn't
looking good for the Warriors through three quarters. The force was with us
and it was one of Monta Ellis' best performances. It just wasn't his scoring
but he willed and helped our team win. He just kept focused and kept trucking
like the Energizer bunny,"
Golden State, which hasn't won three in a row all year, will also play host to
Miami, Milwaukee, Chicago, Denver and New Jersey on its current residency.
The Warriors have dropped three straight to the Cavs, including a 114-108
setback in Cleveland on Nov. 17.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds.
Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.
New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.
Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
