Tattered Blazers play host to Bobcats
Basketball Betting Lines
02/01/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The banged-up Portland Trail Blazers get back to work
Monday night when they welcome the much-improved Charlotte Bobcats to The Rose
Garden.
Nate McMillan's club has resembled a MASH unit far more than a basketball
club this season.
The Blazers have already lost centers Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla for the
entire season, while athletic forward Travis Outlaw is expected to be on the
sidelines for at least another month after left foot surgery. Perhaps the
toughest injury, however, has been to All-Star swingman Brandon Roy, who has
missed eight of the Blazers' last nine games with a right hamstring problem.
Portland was finally starting to falter without its All-Star, dropping three
straight heading into Saturday's game against Southwest Division-leading
Dallas.
But, just when you count the Blazers out, someone else steps up. Veteran point
guard Andre Miller put on a spectacular performance in "Big D," scoring a
career-high 52 points to propel Portland past the Mavericks, 114-112, in
overtime.
Miller also had five rebounds for the Blazers. The veteran guard tallied 25 of
his points in the fourth quarter and overtime. Miller, who had never scored
more than 37 in a game, came within two points of matching the franchise
record, set by Damon Stoudamire on Jan. 14, 2005.
"It was a phenomenal effort," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said, "We obviously
didn't do a good job on him."
LaMarcus Aldridge donated 21 points while Jerryd Bayless chipped in 17 points
for Portland, which shot 53.5 percent from the field.
Roy is scheduled to be re-evaluated Monday.
The Bobcats, meanwhile, are in the midst of a very impressive six-game road
trip.
Charlotte improved to 3-1 on the trek Saturday in Sacramento when Gerald
Wallace poured in a season-high 38 points to go with 11 rebounds, as the
Bobcats held off the Kings, 103-96.
Nazr Mohammed added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Bobcats. Stephen Jackson
ended with 13 points, eight assists, and six boards for Charlotte, which also
got 13 points from Flip Murray.
"[Coach Larry Brown] has really taught me how to improve myself every time I
step out on the court," said Wallace, who will play in his first All Star Game
next month. "He said he felt like I could be one of the best rebounders in the
league at my position."
The Bobcats had been a dismal 3-16 as the visitor on the year before this
trip.
Portland has won two straight in the series, including an 80-74 triumph in
Charlotte on Nov. 14.
