Bulls sweep home-and-home set from Knicks

Basketball Betting Lines

02/17/2010 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Derrick Rose finished with 27 points to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 115-109 victory over the New York Knicks in the back end of a home-and-home, as trade rumors swirled around both teams.

Luol Deng added 23 points for the Bulls, who beat New York at home on Tuesday. Brad Miller had 21 points, while Taj Gibson contributed 14 points and 16 boards as Chicago won for the fourth time in its last five games.

The Bulls' victory comes as Thursday's trade deadline approaches, and as both teams were rumored to have deals in the works.

Absent from Wednesday's game was Chicago swingman John Salmons, who the Chicago Tribune reported was traded to Milwaukee for Francisco Elson and Kurt Thomas.

The Knicks made one move official, acquiring forward Brian Cardinal from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for center Darko Milicic and cash considerations.

But the focus around the Knicks was on guard Nate Robinson, who did not play because of flu-like symptoms and was rumored to be part of a trade that will send him to Boston.

Al Harrington had 27 points for New York, which has lost five in a row. Wilson Chandler added 26 points, while David Lee had 23 points and 12 boards.

The Knicks led by four with just over two minutes left in the third quarter, but Chicago embarked on an 11-0 run that spanned into the final frame. Tyrus Thomas capped the rally with a dunk to put the Bulls ahead 91-84, and they carried a lead of a few possessions down the stretch.

However, with under four minutes to play, Harrington drained a three and followed that with a dunk to bring New York within 104-102. The Knicks were again within a possession after Chandler's layup and Lee's dunk made it a 108-106 game with 1:53 left.

New York looked as though it might get a chance to tie or take the lead, as Rose's pass on the Bulls' next touch was tipped into the backcourt. But Kirk Hinrich collected the ball, then made his way through traffic to the basket and sank a finger-roll with 1:35 on the clock, making it a 110-106 game.

Inside the final minute, Lee's jumper got the Knicks within 112-109, and they had multiple chances to tie after a Deng turnover. But Danilo Gallinari missed a pair of threes, and Lee's attempt to kick the ball back out to the arc was intercepted by Rose, and the Bulls sealed the win at the line.

New York led 27-25 after the first quarter, then opened the second with six consecutive points. The Knicks continued to play in front and pushed their lead to double-digits when Toney Douglas' three made it a 40-29 game.

New York stretched its lead to a game-high 15 later in the quarter and led 64-53 at halftime.

The Knicks still led by double-digits nearly midway through the third when an eight-point burst got the Bulls back in the game. Hinrich's layup closed the run to get Chicago within 78-74.

LaDainian Tomlinson Favorite to be 2007 NFL MVP

With the first NFL preseason game less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about football once again at MySportsbook.com. Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson is currently the 5-1 co-favorite to win the award again alongside Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone after his all out assault on the record books last season. For those suffering from amnesia or were under a rock last football season, all L.T. did last season was set the NFL record for rushing touchdowns (28), total touchdowns (31) and total points scored (186) to go along with his 1815 rushing yards and 508 receiving yards. At 6-1, Tom Brady is next in line which isn’t surprising considering all of the firepower the Pats added over the off-season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker; it would be quite difficult for Brady’s numbers not to improve from last years 3529 yards and 24 touchdowns. There appears to be some decent value in Drew Bees at 10-1 considering he probably would have won the award last year if it wasn’t for L.T.’s record breaking season.

There is no reason to think the Saints will come back to earth this season and playing in a weak NFC, they should have as good a shot as any to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. At 15-1, Donovan McNabb could also be worth a look. Remember, many felt he was the MVP of the first half of the season before going down with a season ending injury. Reportedly, he is in great shape and well ahead of schedule to return to form. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb.
