Hawks hope to bury the past in Utah
Basketball Betting Lines
02/22/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The last time the Atlanta Hawks won in Salt Lake City
Dominique Wilkins was still entertaining the crowd with his acrobatic dunks.
"The Human Highlight Film" has long since retired and the new Hawks will try
to snap a 15-game slide at the Jazz tonight from EnergySolutions Arena.
Atlanta hasn't won in Utah since February 13, 1993 and sports an all-time
record of 11-31 in games played in Salt Lake City. The Hawks have won two
straight in this series, including a 96-83 home victory back on December 18
this season, but the Jazz own an 11-3 mark in the previous 14 encounters and
are 16-1 against tonight's opponent at EnergySolutions Arena.
The Hawks have dropped two in a row overall to fall 2 1/2 games behind Orlando
for the top spot in the Southeast and suffered a 108-104 loss at Golden State
last night. Joe Johnson finished with 31 points and five rebounds, as the
Hawks fell to 1-2 on a four-game road trip. Al Horford ended with 26 points
and 11 boards, Jamal Crawford scored 17 points to reach 10,000 for his career
and Josh Smith chipped in 14 points and 17 rebounds in defeat.
"We just failed to execute coming down the stretch," Hawks head coach Mike
Woodson said. "We had a comfortable lead and stopped doing things that got us
the lead."
Woodson's squad is 13-14 away from Dixie this season and fourth in the Eastern
Conference standings.
Utah just completed a perfect four-game road trip with a 93-89 overtime
victory at Portland on Sunday, and will open a quick homestand versus the
Hawks and Bobcats tonight. In the win over the Blazers, Carlos Boozer scored
22 points and grabbed a career-high 23 rebounds, while Deron Williams had 18
points and 12 assists for the Jazz, who rallied from 25 points down to win for
the 17th time in the last 19 games.
"We didn't give up, that's the biggest thing, we fought back, a lot of teams
in this league probably wouldn't have done that being down 25, but we did a
great job of staying together as a group, fighting on defense," Boozer said
after Utah improved to 8-1 this month.
The Jazz are just a half-game behind Denver for the Northwest lead, third in
the West and 22-7 as the host this season. Forward Andrei Kirilenko (back) is
questionable for Monday.

Marlins could start season without No. 2 starter Johnson
JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
