Warriors snap long road skid; Nelson inches closer to Wilkens

Basketball Betting Lines

03/29/2010 - Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Reggie Williams poured in 25 points and Don Nelson inched closer to becoming No. 1 on the all-time NBA coaching victory list as the Warriors grabbed a 121-103 triumph over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Warriors used just eight players and snapped a 13-game road skid despite being without leading scorer Monta Ellis (flu). It was the team's first away victory since January 6 at Minnesota.

Golden State dominated the second quarter with a 40-14 scoring difference, a period in which the Warriors shot 17-of-26 from the field. The Clippers went 4-for-16 over the same span.

Nelson has 1,330 regular season victories, which is three away from breaking the record held by Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens. The Warriors, who have just 21 wins this season (21-52) will play six of their final nine games on the road. They play at Utah on Wednesday, but also have contests against several sub-par teams, including New York, Washington, Minnesota and the Clippers again.

Rasual Butler had 21 points and Eric Gordon 20 for the Clippers, who lost for the 11th time in 13 games. Drew Gooden added 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Baron Davis chipped in 18 points, seven assists and six boards.

The Clippers were ahead by as many as 13 in the opening quarter, but the lead was trimmed to 36-29 after 12 minutes.

The Warriors used a 26-4 spurt to take control of the game. Williams ended the burst with a jam for a 49-40 lead and the Warriors continued to pull away, holding a 69-50 cushion at the half.

"When we were down 13 points we kept our pedal to the metal and played good defense," Nelson said. "Lenny Wilkens is my hero and if I do pass him it would be an honor."

The double-digit spread remained in the third quarter, although the Clippers trimmed the margin to 95-83 going to the fourth. They climbed within single digits, but only at nine, the last time at 100-91 following a Steve Novak technical free throw with 9:05 remaining. Golden State netted the next six points, capped by a Ronny Turiaf slam.

"The game was strange and disappointing," Clippers coach Kim Hughes said. "We shot poorly. Our bigs were not good and turned the ball over too much. When our offense went south we stopped playing defense."
